A reading issue I was aware of was at my high school. We had a book that a teacher of mine wanted to read (I don't remember what it was called or about) and when he handed it out to students parents began calling the administration office wanted him to take back the book. They believed it was offensive and not appropriate for a high school Advanced Placement European History Class. This interested me because after we gave the book back, I googled it and read a little bit about it and didn't really understand what was so bad about it. My interest came from this because I was apart of it my Junior year of high school. I don't really have any questions, I just think, he's a teacher, he obviously knows certain things, I think if he wanted us to read the book we should have read the book. I see this issue occurring in many places like schools. I recommend that if a teacher is wanted us to read a book, let us read it.
I agree. Maybe it would be different for elementary school for a parent to have a say about what books a student reads, but I think high school students should be able to read anything a teacher believes is appropriate and make their own conclusions.
